"Dexter"

I love the Showtime's TV series! It is an American television station, emited in many countries, mainly in the USA, founded in California in 1976. Among its most well-known TV series we can list, inter alia "The Brogias", "Californication", "Weeds" and "Dexter", on which I'll focus on.

The first season of "Dexter" was created on the grounds of a novel, titled "Darkly Dreaming Dexter" by Jeff Lindsay. The other seven seasons raised from the script written by James Manos Jr. Michael C. Hall received numerous awards and nominations for the role of the main character in "Dexter", for example, the Golden Globe Awards. The other actors playing in the TV series are Jennifer Carpenter as Debra Morgan (Dexter's step-sister, working as a detective in Miami Metro, in real life she is the actor's wife; they have divorced from each other exactly at the same moment when in the "Dexter's" plot Debra realised that she was in love with him), David Zayos as Angel Batista (a sergeant in Miami Metro), Lauren Vélez as Maria LaGuerta  (a captain in Miami Metro), C. S. Lee as  Vince Masuka  (a perverse Chinese police's laboratory worker) and many others...

The main character of this TV series is Dexter Morgan, acted by Michael C. Hall, working for the Miami Metro Police Department as a blood traces analyst. He seems to be a perfect step-brother, father, husband and employee, but it's only a cover for his actual nature. He has a really dark secret - it turns out that at night, he is a serial killer. However,  it appears that, according to his specific codex, he can kill only one sort of people - the killers. Thanks to his extraordinary intelligence, adroitness, analytic skills and a little bit of fortune, he is able to verify if his "target" really is a murderer.

I can't tell more in order not to spoil all the plot...

Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs

One of my favourites English-speaking music producers is known by his stage name, Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs.

His real name is Orlando Tobias Edward Higginbottom and he was born on 7 March 1986. TEED is not only a music producer, but also a DJ and a singer, recording the indie electronic, house and indie pop music.

As a singer, he has recorded only one solo disc, titled "Trouble", published in 2012 in cooperation with the Polydor Record Label.

TEED'S work on the "Trouble" was appreciated when he received the UK Festival's Award nomination for the best disruptive performance.

Among his most well-known songs we can list "Household Goods", "Promises", "Solo" and "Garden", which became popular in Poland thanks to one of the Nokia's advertisements - its authors used it as a soundtrack.

Listen to the "Garden's" music video:

Naomi Alderman "Disobedience"

The James Naughtie’s  Bookclub invites Naomi Alderman to talk about her book, titled ”Disobedience”. It was published in 2006 and it made its author one of the best young novelists that everyone watched and read.

                                                                  Naomi Alderman

The book relates the story of a young woman, one of the habitants of a Jewish community in
North London. The author focuses on the description of tensions experienced by Renette, who after
leaving the community is living in New York, embroiled In an extramarital affair. She comes back to London for her father’s funeral, where she meets Este, a Rabbi’s wife, which is attracted to her.

The journalist finds “Disobedience” a funny and sharp novel, that describing Jewish traditions and faith, presents an ambiguity of the principal characters. It’s a complex book in terms of the religious aspects showed by the author in a very technical way. In order to expose the Jewish tradition, the novelist starts each chapter with a short commentary of religious texts.

Naomi Alderman was herself in a similar situation as the main character of her book – she
grew up in the London’s Jewish community from where she got away to United States. After
publishing the novel, she came back which caused a mixed reaction. For the majority of Jewish
people, “Disobedience” reveals something that shouldn’t be revealed, the orthodox traditional
rituals. The novelist admits that, writing this book, she had a feeling inside herself that she shouldn’t
be doing it and that she should be quiet about it.
